VOLUNTEER
Victoria Mansion always needs volunteers! Volunteering is an opportunity to help the Mansion, while improving yourself. We offer our volunteers an in-depth education in history, architecture, and decorative arts, as well as a challenging and fulfilling setting in which to work. Volunteers work alongside a dedicated professional staff and other enthusiastic volunteers. Please consider becoming a volunteer and help us share this house and its history with visitors from Maine, the nation, and around the world.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
Volunteers at Victoria Mansion:
• give guided tours to the general public
• lead educational programs for school children and adults.
• greet visitors at the admission desk and assist with sales in the Museum Shop.
• serve as room stewards at Christmas time, helping out during our most important fundraiser.
• assist in the office with filing, mailings, and data entry

PORTLAND HISTORY DOCENTS PROGRAM
In one of the most innovative programs in the nation, five historic sites in the Portland area come together each year to offer the Portland History Docents training program. The Maine Historical Society, Greater Portland Landmarks, Portland Harbor Museum, Tate House and Victoria Mansion together offer a nine-week collaborative docent training program that gives volunteers an introduction to Portland history, social history, and the history of architecture, an orientation to the five sites, and practical training in guiding techniques. The program is free of charge, but participants are expected to volunteer for one of the five organizations. The next program will begin in February. Call 772-4841 for more information or visit:

DONATE
THE ANNUAL FUND
Victoria Mansion depends on contributions for a substantial portion of its annual operating budget, which supports programs, the staff, annual maintenance to the building, and general operations. A donation to the Annual Fund will have a real impact on what the museum is able to accomplish this year.

RESTRICTED GIFTS FOR SPECIAL PROJECTS
There are also many opportunities for a restricted gift to support a project designated by the donor, which might range from education, to conservation of the collections or restoration of the building. Though great progress has been made with the recent capital campaign, the Mansion still needs support for critical preservation projects in the near future that will include modernizing the building’s electrical system, upgrading gutters and downspouts, and repairing the brownstone exterior.
Though the stained glass skylight has transformed the building, there are also many opportunities to have a dramatic impact by supporting conservation of the collections and painted decorations, restoration of upholstery and window treatments, or an endowment for the research library.
Financial contributions to Victoria Mansion are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by IRS code. Consider also the tax benefits of giving appreciated securities, or of a planned gift.

Please contact us if you would like to make a gift, or for more information on any of these programs:
